schedule review

my students have certain vocabulary that they are responsible for on certain days. is there a way that they could sortof "schedule" their vocab review to happen? like if they say they need to know "parts of the body" for October 5, on October 2 (or whatever it would be), when they went to do some vocab sets, Lingco would choose it for them based on how many days away it was and do a mixture of the vocabulary for the next 2-4 days or whatever? Not sure if I'm making my idea clear.

or maybe also I could schedule it for them. I could input due dates and they could then just log in and it would suggest to them which ones are coming up. i guess it's possible it already does that, i'll have to look around.

Shannon Quinn: I think this makes a bit more sense. As it stands right now, you can set due dates for vocab sets to be completed and when students go to review, the system predicts the probability that they'll get each term correct and prioritizes the review session based on which ones the students need to see the most.

Seth Killian: does it take the due dates into consideration? i'll have to look how to make a due date. when i looked just now i just saw start and end date.
Seth Killian
Shannon Quinn: It doesn't look at the due date since it's per vocab set. I could see having an overall "review" and "learn terms" button on their dashboard that will look at all of the vocabulary and consider the due date when prioritizing the terms to review. The way that I see most instructors doing it right now is they'll make all of the vocabulary due for the chapter on the day of the test and most good students will have learned the terms a week or so before and then focus on reviewing up to the exam. Since all of the sets for the chapter are due on the same day, the due date becomes negligible when prioritizing terms.

I could see a condition where x is due on Friday and needs more review but y is due Thursday so y should be prioritized but does that happen in practice that often (where two sets are due in close proximity)?

Seth Killian: does "end date" mean the same as due date? i have mine divided up into small sections and they have a certain section that they are supposed to know for each day.
Shannon Quinn
yes, at least in my class, they have small vocab quizzes almost every day in class. they halfway hate it but honestly i have found it helps SO MUCH with people walking in late, which i used to find so disruptive.

Shannon Quinn: Yes - end date is the same as due date. When assigned, the system will take their score up until the end date. They can continue to learn and review after (the sets never close) but if there's a grade associated with it, it stops at the due date.

Shannon Quinn: Ah okay I see. If vocabulary sets are two or so days apart then the due date should be considered when prioritizing terms to review review
Shannon Quinn
Seth Killian: is end date the same as due date? in D2L they are different.
Seth Killian
Shannon Quinn: They're the same. I may want to change it to be due date since end date implies that the vocabulary set goes away, which it never does.
